A sublimated medal ribbon is the part of a medal people see first in every photo. It is a smooth satin polyester ribbon, usually 25 mm wide and about 80 cm long as a neck loop, printed with your design in full colour using dye sublimation. The ink goes into the fibres, so it does not crack or peel, and both sides can be printed.
Why a custom medal ribbon matters
A plain stock ribbon makes any medal look generic, while a printed ribbon carries the event name, sponsor logo, date and colours. Can both sides of the ribbon be printed?
Yes. Sublimation can print both sides, which helps because ribbons often twist when worn. Many clients print the event name on one side and sponsor logos on the other. Both sides appear on the proof.
Which ribbon width should we choose?
25 mm is the standard for most medals. 20 mm suits small or children's medals, and 30 mm suits large medals over 70 mm. We match the clip or ring to the width you choose.
Can we buy ribbons without medals?
Yes. Ribbons can be ordered on their own, for example to refresh medals you already have or to add sponsor logos for a new season. The minimum for ribbons only is confirmed in the quote.
